Chess workshop for Regimental Centre of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry in Panagoda Army Cantonment

 
It was a remarkable occasion when the officers and the other ranks of the Regimental Centre of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry in Panagoda Army Cantonment, had reserved one of their training day for a special sport enthusiastically, on 5th November 2003. That is none other than “ Chess ”.

On a request made by the Regimental Centre of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry, the Chess workshop was held by the Anatoly Karpov Chess Club of the Russian Centre in Colombo.

During the program, which, was, included the similar words, activities and tactics those are practised frequently in their professional field, the enthusiasm and the commitment to grab the Chess learning, shawn by more than 200 participants who were attended to this program was highly appreciating.

The program, had been organised by Major Mudalige under the instructions of Colonel Janaka Masakkara and Major Janath Hettiarachchi who is presently attached to Jaffna peninsula coordinated it. Chess Olympiad Gold Medallist Mrs.Suneetha Wijesuriya and Coordinating Officer Mr. Bandula Withanage conducted the Chess training workshop.

This was, the 99th Chess workshop Islandwidely held by Anatoly Karpov Chess Club, on request and the 4th for Army.

The opinion of every one attended the workshop was that " war on a board" alias “The Chess Sport”, should be widened among the Army personnel, which is most suited to improve their mentality, although there are the relaxation and the silence of weapons prevailing, yet to face any challenge which comes tomorrow.
